Housekeeper in Mallorca: Live-In Staff and Caretaker Couples
If you are looking for a housekeeper in Mallorca who is discreet, experienced and ready to live in your home, you can start the search from Madrid. Mimucama is a domestic-staff agency based in Madrid, and we have selected domestic staff since 2010. We find the candidates in Madrid, you meet them by video call, and the person you choose travels to the island to start work.
We are a placement agency authorised by the Spanish Public Employment Service (SEPE, no. 1300000335), with our office at Avda. Guadalix, 7, 28120 Santo Domingo, Madrid. We select live-in staff only: live-in housekeepers, live-in nannies and housekeeping couples (married couples). We do not offer live-out or part-time staff outside Madrid.
This page explains what families in Mallorca ask for, how caretakers look after a second home all year, how the selection works at a distance, and what the fees and the guarantee include.
Hiring a Housekeeper in Mallorca: What Families Ask For
Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands, and its capital is Palma. According to the Spanish National Statistics Institute (INE), it had about 971,000 inhabitants in 2025.
Well-known residential areas include Son Vida, in Palma, with more than 350 mansions and three golf courses around it; Port d’Andratx, in the municipality of Andratx, with a marina of about 500 berths; and Santa Ponsa, in Calvià, with two 18-hole golf courses and one 9-hole course. The island has a large German-speaking community, and international families live there alongside Spanish ones.
The houses are large, often with a garden and a pool. Families need help above all with the house itself, and less with the children. Some families live on the island all year; others use a second home for part of the year, and Spanish families from Madrid are among them.
Requests usually fall into three groups:
- Caretakers for a second home: a couple who live in the house all year and look after it while the family is away.
- A live-in housekeeper or a nanny in Mallorca for a family home: cleaning, cooking, laundry and, where there are children or older relatives, their daily care.
- A housekeeping couple for a large property: two professionals who share the house, the garden and the pool.
All our posts on the island are live-in. We also work in Valencia and Barcelona and on the Costa del Sol, where you will find our page for a housekeeper in Marbella.
Caretakers for Your Second Home: A Housekeeper in Mallorca All Year
A house in Mallorca can stand empty for months. Many families from Madrid, and many international families, keep a second home on the island and need caretakers who live there all year. Caretakers are a housekeeping couple who live in the house, look after it while the family is away and keep it perfectly maintained, so that you always arrive to a home in good order.
What a caretaker couple does depends on the season and on whether the family is in the house. It helps to write down what you expect in each case before the search starts.
What Caretakers Do While the House Is Empty
With nobody at home, the caretakers usually:
- Walk round the house regularly
- Air the rooms
- Look after the garden and the pool
- Deal with suppliers
- Report any fault to you
Before You Arrive and While You Are There
Before the family arrives, the caretakers make the beds and get the kitchen and the bathrooms ready. When you are in the house, they cook, do the laundry, tidy up and look after your guests, with the hours you agree in advance.
This is a post of great trust, so it helps to put in writing from the start what each partner is responsible for, how faults are reported and how much notice you give of your arrivals. You will find more about this format on our page on housekeeping couples (in Spanish).
If you also need a live-in driver, see our profiles of live-in staff with a driving licence (in Spanish).
Live-In Housekeeper or Couple for a Large House?
The right choice depends on how much there is to look after. A housekeeping couple is hired together and can divide the work: one partner looks after the inside of the house, the other the garden and the pool. In a large property with grounds this often spreads the load better than one person can. If the house also stands empty for long periods, a couple living there is often the better fit.
A Live-In Housekeeper in Mallorca for a Family Home
Families who live on the island all year follow the same process as second-home owners. A live-in housekeeper is often enough when the main work is the house, the cooking and the laundry, or the care of a child or an older relative. We define the job with you, present candidates and you decide. Tell us your case and we will assess it together.
Nanny in Mallorca and Live-In Care for Families with Children
Some families have young children and look for a live-in nanny. In that case, a nanny in Mallorca combines the daily care of the children with part of the housework, depending on what is agreed for the post.
The island has several British and international schools. The directory of the National Association of British Schools in Spain (NABSS) lists, for example, Queen’s College in Palma, King Richard III College in Portals Nous and Baleares International College on its San Agustí campus. There is also a German school in Palma, the Eurocampus Deutsche Schule. School timetables and school runs shape the working day of a nanny, so keep them in mind when you define the job.
Our page on live-in nannies for families with children and babies (in Spanish) describes the profiles we select for childcare.
Filipino Housekeeper in Mallorca: Our Speciality
International households often want a nanny or a housekeeper who can work in English. Filipino staff are our speciality, and they generally have a good level of English, which is useful in a home where more than one language is spoken.
What you can expect:
- Previous experience in Spain
- References checked with their former employers
- Video-call interviews, so you do not need to travel

From Madrid to the Island: How the Selection Works
We choose and interview candidates in Madrid, and the person you hire travels to the island to start. From time to time there may be a candidate who already lives in Mallorca. We cannot count on it, since it depends on the moment, but we check it when we define the job.
The process, step by step:
- We define the job with you: tasks, hours, who lives in the house, whether you need one person, a housekeeping couple or caretakers, and what the property is like.
- We present candidates whose experience and references we have already checked.
- You interview them by video call. You do not need to move, and the candidates do not need to travel.
- If you prefer to meet a candidate face to face, the candidate can travel to the island just for that interview, with the ticket paid by the family.
- You choose. The decision is always yours.
- We agree the start date with you, taking the journey into account. The travel to start the job is always paid by the family, also for a replacement.
If your family lives in Madrid, you can meet the candidates in person there. We present the first candidates within 48 to 72 hours of defining the job, except for very specific profiles. A housekeeping couple or caretakers always take longer to find, even in Madrid.
Travel and Days Off
Madrid and Mallorca are well connected. According to Air Europa, the direct flight from Madrid to Palma takes about 80 minutes. From Barcelona there is also a ferry; Baleària gives about seven hours for the conventional ferry.
Live-in staff coming from Madrid have a day and a half off each week. They often agree with the family how to group their days off, so that they can return to Madrid from time to time. Each family finds its own arrangement.
Questions to Ask a Housekeeper in Mallorca in the Video Interview
A video interview is short, so prepare your questions in advance. Open questions, such as “describe a normal week in…”, tell you more than questions with a yes-or-no answer.
Housekeeper in Mallorca: Large Houses, Gardens and Pools
- Describe the biggest house you have looked after. Which rooms and outdoor areas were your responsibility?
- How do you keep a garden and a pool in good order in the summer heat?
- Which jobs would you do yourself, and which would you leave to a specialist?
- If a pipe burst while the family was abroad, whom would you call and what would you do first?
Caretakers: Living in the House All Year
If you are hiring caretakers, put these questions to both partners:
- How would the two of you divide the work between the house and the garden?
- What would a normal week look like when the family is away and the house is empty?
- How would you get the house ready if the family were arriving on Friday?
- How do you feel about holding the keys to another family’s house?
Routine, Rest and Discretion
Use this part of the call to check that both sides understand the same arrangement. The pay, hours and social security registration you agree are also the conditions the guarantee expects you to respect.
- What does a good working day look like for you, and when do you need to rest?
- Would you like to group your days off to return to Madrid from time to time?
- If a neighbour or a supplier asked about the family, what would you say?
- How comfortable are you in English and in Spanish?
- What would you like to ask us?
Salary for a Housekeeper in Mallorca: Guidance Only
Our guidance for a live-in housekeeper in Mallorca who travels from Madrid is a salary from €1,800 net per month, in 13 payments. Net is what the worker receives; the gross salary and the social security contributions are calculated separately.
For a housekeeping couple or for caretakers, hired together, the guidance is from €1,650 net per month per person. It can be higher depending on the profile of the candidates and the requirements of the job.
These figures are guidance, not a fixed price. Every placement depends on many factors, such as the profile, the tasks, the hours, the journey and whether you need one person, a couple or caretakers. That is why we always prepare a personalised quote for your housekeeper in Mallorca.
Preparing the Home for Live-In Staff
The first weeks go better when the following is settled before the arrival:
- A private room with a wardrobe and a good bed; for a couple, their own accommodation
- Hours and rest breaks, in writing
- Days off, and how they are grouped so the worker can go back to Madrid
Fees for a Housekeeper in Mallorca and the Six-Month Guarantee
Our fees are one month’s salary, calculated on a 13-payment basis, plus Spanish VAT. They are paid 50 % at the hiring agreement and the remaining 50 % no later than the start day. Holding interviews does not generate any fees.
The travel to start the job is always paid by the family, also for a replacement. All the conditions are in our terms and conditions.
The guarantee lasts six months from the start, with one replacement: two starts in total, counting the first. If the person who started leaves the job permanently within that period, we repeat the selection. To use it, email us as soon as it happens, and no later than fifteen days after the departure. The fees must have been paid in full and the agreed conditions respected.
Contract and Employer in Spain
The job is in Spain, and the family is the employer under Spanish law. We also handle the Spanish social security registration and the employment contract.
Discretion and Trust
A person who works in your home knows your routine, and caretakers also hold your keys. For that reason we ask about discretion in every interview and with former employers, and the data of your family and your home are treated confidentially.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to find a housekeeper in Mallorca?
We present the first candidates within 48 to 72 hours of defining the job, except for very specific profiles. A housekeeping couple or caretakers always take longer to find, even in Madrid. The start date is agreed with you, because the journey has to be organised.
What do caretakers do in a second home in Mallorca?
Caretakers are a housekeeping couple living in the house all year. While you are away they walk round it, air it, look after the garden and the pool, deal with suppliers and report any fault. When you are there, they cook, do the laundry and look after your guests.
Who pays for the candidate’s travel to Mallorca?
The family always pays the travel to start the job, also for a replacement. Interviews are normally by video call. If you wish to meet a candidate face to face, the candidate can travel to the island just for that interview, with the ticket paid by the family.
How much does a housekeeper in Mallorca earn?
As guidance, from €1,800 net per month, in 13 payments. For a housekeeping couple or caretakers, hired together, from €1,650 net per month per person; it can be higher depending on the candidates’ profile and the job. It is not a fixed price: every placement depends on many factors, so we prepare a personalised quote.
Can you select a nanny in Mallorca who speaks English?
Yes. Filipino staff are our speciality. They have worked in Spain, we check their references with former employers, and they generally speak good English, which helps in an international home. You interview them by video call, and the selection carries a six-month guarantee with one replacement.
What happens if the person we hire leaves?
If the person leaves the job permanently within six months of the start, we select one replacement: two starts in total, counting the first. Email us as soon as it happens, and no later than fifteen days after the departure. The fees must be paid in full and the agreed conditions respected. See the terms and conditions.
Should I choose a caretaker couple or one live-in housekeeper?
It depends on how much there is to look after. One person may be enough when the main work is the house, the children or an older relative. With a garden, a pool and long periods when the house is empty, a caretaker couple shares the work better.
Do you provide a housekeeper in Mallorca for families who live there all year?
Yes. The process is the same as for a second home: we define the job, present candidates, you interview them by video call and you decide. If your family lives in Madrid and has a home in Mallorca, you can meet the candidates in person in Madrid.
