Live-in domestic staff with Spanish nationality. No work permit needed.
A Filipino nanny in Italy can work for your family without a work permit, because every candidate we present holds Spanish nationality. Mimucama Intermediación, SL is a domestic-staff agency in Madrid that has selected domestic workers since 2010, and Italy is one of the countries where we occasionally place them.
We are a placement agency authorised by the Spanish Public Employment Service (SEPE, no. 1300000335), with our office at Avda. Guadalix, 7, 28120 Santo Domingo, Madrid. The work is simple to describe: you tell us what your household needs, we preselect candidates, you meet them by video and you decide.
The salary is agreed net, in 12 monthly payments, starting from €2,600 net per month. Our fees equal one month’s net salary plus Spanish VAT, and the service guarantee lasts six months from the start, with one replacement at no extra fee. Each point is explained in detail below.
Why Families Choose a Filipino Nanny in Italy
Families who contact us usually give two reasons: English and reputation. English matters when the children are growing up bilingual, when the parents work in an international setting or when the family simply wants the language spoken at home. Filipino domestic workers are also known around the world for their care and professionalism in family homes.
Our clients abroad used to be mostly Spanish families living outside Spain. That has changed. Most of the families who find us online today are German, French or Swiss and have no link to Spain. We place workers in Italy only occasionally, and we also work with families there when the profile fits.
Our candidates are mostly Filipino domestic workers and, sometimes, workers of other nationalities. What they share is Spanish nationality, and that is what spares you the permit paperwork.
Spanish Nationality: No Work Permit Needed
Spanish citizens are citizens of the European Union, and EU law lets them move to another member state to work without a permit. A Filipino nanny in Italy with Spanish nationality is covered by that right. The official Your Europe page on working in another EU country sets out the details.
Filipino nationals can apply for Spanish nationality after two years of legal residence in Spain, under article 22.1 of the Spanish Civil Code. The candidates we present have already been granted it.
The information about Italian rules on this page is orientative. It does not replace the official source or the advice of your local adviser in Italy.
What a Filipino Nanny or Housekeeper Does in Your Home
A Filipino housekeeper who lives with your family does the work of any live-in domestic worker. The exact mix of tasks depends on your household, which is why we ask you to define it before the search begins. Some families want someone focused on the children, others need a housekeeper who also helps an older relative.
Tasks of a Live-In Filipino Nanny in Italy
Cleaning and ironing
Cooking
Childcare, when agreed
Caring for older people, when agreed
In Italy, the level assigned under the collective agreement depends on the tasks, so a precise description of the job helps your adviser classify it correctly.
What We Ask You to Define
Before the preselection we ask for four details:
How many people live in the household
The size of the home
The daily schedules
The rest periods you can offer her
With these details we present candidates who suit your household, and the video interview is where you check it.
Agreeing the Working Conditions
A live-in post works best when everything is clear from the first day. Before she starts, agree the following points with the candidate. They then go into the employment contract that your adviser prepares:
The daily schedule and the meal breaks
Daily and weekly rest, and the days off
The main tasks and the people she will look after
The salary and the payment date
Her paid holidays and what happens when the family travels in summer
In Italy, the national collective agreement for domestic work sets limits on these points, including the maximum hours of live-in workers, as the table further down shows. Respecting what you agree also matters for the guarantee, and your adviser will check that the contract complies with Italian rules.
How to Hire a Filipino Nanny in Italy with Mimucama
The process is the one we follow in Spain, with a single difference. In Spain it ends with a face-to-face interview. For a post in Italy that is not possible, so every interview is held by video, and for that reason our preselection is more thorough.
You tell us the tasks and the profile you are looking for.
We preselect candidates who fit that profile.
You interview them by video.
You choose the candidate you want to hire.
You pay the first 50 % of the fees when the hiring agreement is reached.
You send her the flight tickets.
She starts, and you pay the remaining 50 % no later than the start day.
You pay nothing for the search or the interviews. Fees accrue only when you reach a hiring agreement with one of the candidates we present.
What You Receive Before the Interview
Before each interview we send you the candidate’s profile sheet, with her age, experience and skills. It leaves out her surname and contact details, and we organise the interviews ourselves.
A video call shows you how she communicates, how she answers your questions and how she reacts to the rhythm of your household. We recommend that every adult who will share the home with her takes part.
Questions to Ask a Filipino Nanny in Italy in the Video Interview
The video interview with a Filipino nanny in Italy is short, so prepare your questions in advance. Pick those that matter most to your household and pay attention to how she answers, not only to what she says. Questions that begin with “tell me about…” give you more than questions answered with yes or no.
Decide beforehand who asks what, so the call does not feel like an interrogation, and keep a few minutes at the end for her own questions. If you would like help with the list, tell us.
Experience with Children and Households
Ask for real situations rather than a summary of her sheet.
Which children have you cared for, and how old were they at each post?
How did you spend the hours between school and dinner?
Describe a moment when a child was upset or unwell. What did you do first?
How do you handle a child who does not want to follow a rule when the parents are out?
Specific examples tell you more than general statements.
Daily Routine, Rest and Family Rhythms
Describe an ordinary weekday in your home, from the school run to bedtime, and check that she follows it. Meal times and weekend routines vary a great deal between families, so say what yours looks like.
What would you change about this routine, and what is unclear?
Which tasks do you enjoy most, and which cost you the most effort?
Are you willing to learn the family’s favourite dishes, including Italian ones?
If a child falls ill while dinner is on the stove, what do you do first?
What do you understand by weekly rest, and how would you like to spend your days off?
The hours, rest and tasks you agree are the same conditions that the guarantee expects you to respect.
Living in Italy: Language, Holidays and Distance
Moving to another country to live in a family’s home is a big step, and a Filipino nanny in Italy will be far from her own family. Ask openly and give her room to be honest.
Have you lived or worked abroad before, and how did you settle in?
Which languages do you speak, and how would you use English, Spanish and Italian at home?
Are you ready to learn Italian, and what would help you do it?
Our family spends part of the summer in another house. How would you feel about travelling with us and working there?
When would you like to take your paid holidays, and how do you plan to see your family?
How will you stay in touch with your family, and what do you need at home to feel comfortable?
What would you like to ask us?
Write down your impressions straight after the call, and compare them with the other adults at home before you choose.
Salary: Net and in 12 Monthly Payments
Salaries for these posts are agreed net and in 12 monthly payments. In Spain pay is usually discussed gross and in 13 or 14 payments, a system few people elsewhere in Europe know. A single net figure avoids confusion on both sides.
The salary starts from €2,600 net per month.
What Net Means
Net is what she actually receives each month, after social security contributions and taxes have been deducted. Your local payroll adviser, such as a consulente del lavoro (labour consultant) or a payroll service, works out the gross salary needed to reach that net figure under Italian rules. The calculation depends on Italian law, so it should be done by someone who knows it.
Pay Floor for a Filipino Nanny in Italy: The National Collective Agreement
For domestic work, minimum pay is set by the national collective agreement (CCNL lavoro domestico) and depends on the level of the job, which follows its tasks and responsibility. For live-in workers, the agreement also sets maximum working hours: 10 non-consecutive hours a day and 54 hours a week.
The Ministry of Labour publishes the current table of minimum pay by level. Your adviser picks the right level for the tasks and checks that the agreed pay respects that floor for the hours worked.
Fees for a Filipino Nanny in Italy: One Month’s Net Salary
Our fees equal one month’s net salary on the 12-payment basis, plus Spanish VAT, which is 21 % today. It is Spanish VAT even though the job is in Italy. With the starting salary, the calculation is:
Net salary: €2,600
Spanish VAT (21 %): €546
Total fees: €3,146
The total is paid in two equal parts: €1,573 when the hiring agreement is reached and €1,573 no later than the start day. There are no registration fees.
The fees do not cover the flights. You pay her flight, and also the flight of a replacement if you use the guarantee. Our terms and conditions set out every condition, and you accept them before the interviews.
Six-Month Service Guarantee with One Replacement
For posts outside the Community of Madrid, including Italy, the guarantee lasts six months from the start and includes one replacement at no extra fee. That makes two starts in total, counting the first.
If your Filipino nanny in Italy leaves the post for good, whether you end the relationship or she resigns, we select a new candidate with the same profile without charging fees again. Keep these points in mind:
Notify us by email at info@mimucama.es within fifteen days of her departure.
The guarantee requires the fees to be paid in full and the agreed conditions to be respected: pay, working hours and registration with social security.
There are no trial days. The protection is the guarantee.
If the job is later moved permanently to another place, the guarantee ends.
If the candidate does not start for reasons that are not your responsibility, we run a new selection at no extra cost.
You are the employer. That means you sign the contract and register her with the Italian social security institute, INPS, through your own adviser. Mimucama does not handle that paperwork and does not advise on Italian law. We present candidates with the right nationality and state the salary, the fees and the guarantee clearly before you choose.
The table summarises the main points when you hire a Filipino nanny in Italy. It is orientative: rules change, so check each official source.
What you arrange
What it means
Official source
Residence registration
If she stays more than three months, she registers with the local registry office (anagrafe) no later than three months after arrival.
Your adviser turns the agreed net salary into the gross salary and runs the payroll.
Your consulente del lavoro or payroll service
Ask your adviser to explain the INPS notification and the payroll steps. Mimucama does not take part in them.
Families in Italy We Work With
We also work with families in Italy, although placements there are occasional and Italy is not our main market. Even so, you can hire a Filipino nanny in Italy wherever you live: in cities such as Milan, Rome, Florence or Turin, or in the towns around Lake Como.
Distance is not an obstacle. The interviews are held by video, you send her the flight tickets, and she travels to your home on the agreed start date.
For more about the candidates we select, read our page on Filipino domestic staff (in Spanish). If you are also looking for a live-in worker in Madrid, we explain that service on our page on the live-in domestic worker in Madrid (in Spanish).
Filipino Nannies in Other European Countries
We also select live-in Filipino nannies and housekeepers with Spanish nationality for families in these countries:
Does a Filipino nanny in Italy need a work permit?
No. All our candidates hold Spanish nationality, so as EU citizens they can work in Italy without a work permit. If she stays more than three months, she registers with the local registry office (anagrafe), no later than three months after arrival.
Who signs the contract and notifies INPS?
You do, with your local adviser, because you are the employer. The INPS notification must be made before midnight of the day before she starts, public holidays included. Mimucama does not handle Italian paperwork and does not advise on Italian law.
How much does a Filipino nanny in Italy earn?
The salary is agreed net and in 12 monthly payments, from €2,600 net per month. Net is what she receives each month after deductions. The national collective agreement sets a minimum by level, and your adviser checks that the agreed pay respects it.
How much are your fees?
Fees are one month’s net salary plus 21 % Spanish VAT. On €2,600 net they come to €3,146, paid in two halves: one when the hiring agreement is reached and one no later than the start day. Searching and interviewing cost nothing.
What happens if she leaves?
During the six months after the start, we select one replacement at no extra fee, provided the conditions of the guarantee are met. You pay the replacement’s flight. The details are in the terms and conditions.
Are there trial days?
No. We do not offer trial days. The protection is the six-month guarantee with one replacement.
Who pays for the flights?
You do. You send her the flight tickets, and you also pay the flight of a replacement if you use the guarantee.
Can I hire a Filipino housekeeper instead of a nanny?
Yes. You define the tasks: cleaning, ironing, cooking and, when agreed, childcare or caring for older people. A housekeeper goes through the same process, with the same salary basis and the same guarantee as a nanny.
